Basement Framing

So my plans to be more regular about blogging were put on the back burner for a while but with the new year I’m taking another crack at it. We’re currently in process of starting a new bathroom remodel and just finished a playroom in our basement so I figured I should pick up where I left off with our basement reno from a few years ago so here we go!

After we repaired the walls it was time to start framing new ones. The previous wall studs were closer to the foundation wall and the new ones would be thicker (which would make us adjust the baseboard heating down the road) to support the new dry wall.  You can see in this pic how the studs push the heater farther away from the wall.  Mace likes to pre-fabricate walls so he just has to stand them up in place.  Here he is putting one together.

Here is a shot of the back wall with the new slider installed pre and post framing.  Obviously there was some thinking going on but its been so long I can’t remember what it was about.  It might have been electrical or building a new closet (you can see its missing in this pic) around the waste lines.  Or that he should add more insulation around the joists and fill in cracks leading outside (which he did do).

Here’s a pic of the newly framed closet we decided to add on the back side of the bathroom.  At this point I think we planned to leave the bathroom “as is” but eventually decided we might as well update it since everything around it was new.  This was also when I was planning to add a shower to the bathroom so I didn’t want to demo it until we were ready to do that.

We still had demo to do in the stair well to remove paneling and rebuild the wall that separated the finished and unfinished (which is where we just added a playroom) sides of the basement.  Here are some before and after shots of that progress.

It took about 2-3 weeks to get all this framing done and we were almost 3 months into the project.
