Basement Ready for Drywall

The progress during weeks 17 and 18 was SUPER exciting because drywall was going up and that totally made the space start to feel more finished!! And as you can tell from this pic, there was A LOT of drywall to hang.

Over the years Mace has gotten pretty good at hanging drywall by himself but doing a ceiling by yourself is basically impossible so he used a drywall lift for the overhead lifting. Note the beer cans in the background, always a sign serious labor work was getting done.

Once he measured out where the pot lights would go, it was time to cut them out and get the first piece up.

And I was always there to lend a hand and give him a break when he needed it 🙂

Using the lift made progress really slow so that week he got the back wall hung and a few more smaller sections of the ceiling. We used the green board for moisture control on any exterior walls that were underground.

And then he called in a favor from a tall friend! Our friend Kyle came over and helped hang the rest of the ceiling and walls. And the room was really starting to take shape!

Here they are hard at work and some progress shots.

In addition to the main room the new closet and 1/2 bath also needed drywall. So many small details around the room like wrapping the support posts and window frames need to be done before finishers could start.

Since this room was so large we decided to hire out the drywall finishing to save us some time. Here is the metal corner bead being installed and some shots after they were all done with finishing.

Our supervisor Kobe decided to check out the progress we were making too. There was still a lot of detail work left but we were feeling so good at this point.
