Engagement!!!

There was a lot of running around and wrapping up projects in the bathroom, the deck, and the dining room in order to get ready for our deck party last fall and it turns out Mace had something else on his mind during that time.  I was so distracted with trying to get the house ready it never crossed my mind that something else might be up Mace’s sleeve for the party.  There were a few times he had a different smile or expression when he looked at me as we were setting up (and not just an exasperated one since I was pestering him for help a lot) and looking back those must have been the moments when he thinking about his big plan for the day.  The one face I wish I could have seen was when he realized I took his truck to the store with the ring under the driver’s seat, that would have been priceless!!  A frantic phone call was made to his dad and when I got back Mace seemed a bit perturbed with me for some reason (but I swear I told him shouted I was leaving, he just didn’t hear me) and lucky for him I didn’t need to reach under the seat to move it up!  A few hours and a couple of cocktails into the party he asked me go with him to check out what the deck looked like filled with people (totally something we would, still had no clue), so we wandered down to the creek and Mace tossed a ball away from us in hopes that the children playing would follow it.  Once there I’m sure I stoked his ego about how awesome it looked (which is very true) and how proud he should be of himself (also true) and figured we’d make our way back to the party.  But instead he suggested we head over towards the bridge (thoughts started running through my head at this point) and after we got some privacy behind the trees he proceeded with the rest of his plan, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!!  YAY!!!!  Needless to say I said “YES!!” (again he said he didn’t hear me but I swear I said it out loud) and after a few minutes we headed back to the party and were greeted with friends along the deck railing cheering for us!!  Being able to celebrate with so many people right after made for a really fun night and of course our families were excited when we told them the news!  And he did ask my parents permission before he asked me, such a gentleman this guy!

Since our engagement back in October the personal life (aka wedding planning) took center stage (much to Mace’s surprise, but what man really knows the deal before he’s in the thick of it) and the house projects and blogging got put on the back burning these last few months.  But now that we’ve relaxed a bit after planning a wedding in 5 1/2 months we’re getting back into the swing of non-wedding planning life and focusing on home again!!  It took us all of 1 week after getting back from our honeymoon (Costa Rica was AMAZING!) before we jumped back into house projects, which was a nice change from all the wedding DIY projects (what can I say, we like projects!) we had going on.  Here are some of our engagement pics, which were done in Feb on a very cold day and were almost rescheduled twice due to weather… funny, when I think about it the proposal day was a very chilly fall day for a deck party (they next day was perfect!), our engagement pictures we also very cold and a morning shoot (it was Feb so no surprise), there was an unexpected snow storm during my bridal/bachelorette weekend (are we seeing a trend), and then there were snow flurries during our late March wedding.  If I had paid attention to the signs I should have guessed that 55-60 degrees on our wedding day probably wasn’t in the cards!
