Garage Cabinets

Can’t have a fully functional garage without some storage space!  We had some nice, heavy duty cabinets that were also a job site leftover that we decided would be great in the garage.  They were originally a tan color that I wasn’t a fan of so I painted them using some leftover graphite  chalk paint from the kitchen cabinet redo.   To start we broke out the laser level to assist in hanging them.

We decided to hang them higher than normal so Mace wouldn’t hit his head if he was working on something using the future workbench underneath it, but not so high he couldn’t reach the shelves.

First one went up not problem! We plan to add some shelves to the left in the future.  These cabinets had special hinges so the doors won’t open past the edge of the cabinet and slam into the wall.  We made sure to leave enough clearance on the sides so the door handle wouldn’t hit the wall either.

Next up was the other side, but after we got it up we realized this side was slightly too high to be fully functional because the open doors hit the garage door rails.

So we lowered it so the doors were fully operational (and after filling in the first set of holes you don’t even notice we moved it!).

With both cabinets up and the charcoal color adding a nice contrast to all the white walls (and adding to the “manly” feel of the space) the garage was feeling pretty finished and very useful. And as a result the first wave to Mace’s tools and car supplies were able to move out of the basement! Next up was creating a permanent workbench instead of the pop up one!
