We always knew we’d be getting rid of the whole house fan in the hallway (it still worked but we have central AC and it really dated the house) but didn’t really know where it fell in our priority list to update. Well turns out all it took was a few heating bills!! Mace was walking around the house with a heat sensor gun and found that this little guy was very cold and a source of heat loss so it had to go and jumped to the top of the list. Added bonus is that it would make for easier attic access instead of climbing through the hall closet.
And with the new light it really clashed so I was on board.
So we got busy with demo.
Then Mace cut the new access panel (which I needed to paint) and the trim it would rest on. This was the first project where the garage work space was used… and Mace was ECSTATIC!!! Maybe that was the reason for the project instead of heat loss…
Here we are installing the trim and preparing the nail holes and joint seams for paint (after sanding and making them smooth).
Then we added some insulation to the back of the access panel.
And then it was ready for install!
We also had to address the old switch and do some wall repair (never just ONE thing when you do projects!).
It took about 10 hours to complete this project but it was all worth it in the end and the house feels a lot more current with that vent gone!! We were making pretty good progress on our plans for the house so far!
