We were actually pretty on top of getting our holiday decorations up early this year so I thought I’d share how we spruced up the joint before Christmas is over in a couple days. After the decorations went up I definitely got more into the Christmas spirit and have been jamming out to holiday tunes ever since! I feel like the the dining room got the most attention and it was with pretty minor changes. On the shelves above the buffet I added pops of red along with silver and mercury glass accents to play off the green, white, and silver that was already there. I had fun arranging a “box of balls”, as Mace put it, in a terrarium in the same color scheme to tie the buffet in.
The bar cart is ready to party with the addition of sparkle from twinkle lights.
I added tall red tapers in glass candle sticks and fresh holly and evergreen sprigs to create the centerpiece. Next time I’ll probably get some floral foam so the fresh greenery doesn’t drupe as quickly. I should have taken a picture right after I put them in the vase because it looked great at first, this pic is probably a week after I cut them.
A few years ago my sister made me these beautiful roving wreaths from leftover wool from the sheep she raises on her farm and I decided to use them in the kitchen. They complement the color scheme and bring a soft festiveness to the space.
Its not Christmas without a big red bow somewhere! The entry way got festive update with a red bow on the mirror and there’s nothing more traditional in holiday decor than a big red bow on a boxwood wreath hanging on the front door. In truth I wanted to swap out the bow for a nicer one but sometimes you just gotta go with what’s fast, easy, and already done. I added some festive details to the entry bookcase with some twinkle lights in a lantern and a big silver ball. I’ve got a bunch of those large silver balls from a store display when I worked retail like 10 years ago and I’ve really want to work them into my holiday decor somewhere but haven’t found a great spot for them yet. Maybe next year it will come to me.
Who doesn’t love to display all the holiday cards they get during the season? Between the entry way and dining room I hang a long piece of red burlap on the casing and attach the cards to it. I need to come up with a new plan though because I definitely run out of space… and Kobe likes to eat paper so we’ve occasionally lost a few.
Obviously the tree is the statement piece in the living room and after 5 years of living together we FINALLY got a star to put on top, yay! I also added a couple small stockings and vintage ornaments to the bookcases along with some twinkle lights to our reindeer.
A vintage “Merry Christmas” sign from the hubby’s fam and hanging our stockings completed the mantel. Time to sit by the fire, sip hot cocoa, listen to Christmas tunes, and enjoy the holidays with family. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!
