I’ve mentioned a few times recently that we’re hoping to do a full redo kitchen model later this fall so I thought I’d share some initial plans. Here’s the ariel view of the plan after we knock down the walls between the kitchen and dining room. We want to add a peninsula that has a 1/2 wall between living room and kitchen/dining (not shown b/c the homestyler program wouldn’t let me remove part of the wall). As you can tell this was version #9 that I created so I’ve played around with moving appliances, cabinet layouts , putting the peninsula on the other side, and this was the one that spoke to me the most. But you never know, it could still change! I’d like to do a sliding barn door between the kitchen and mudroom. So yup I’d like to do that room at the same time as the kitchen, but we’ll see if that happens.
Here’s the first 3D angle of the plans (ignore cabinet and door types, those are just placeholders and not exactly what we’re planning). I do want to have some glass upper cabinets but they will be used sporadically cause glass ain’t cheap! One of the reasons I liked the range on the exterior wall was to have a clear visual of the counter tops as you enter the kitchen, it just feels more open to me especially with a smaller first floor.
Here’s the 3D view of the other side of the kitchen, the wall will be taken down up to where the last cabinet is. I’d really like to do double wall ovens but we’ll see how the budget goes since there is an additional cabinet to be bought and the cost of 2 ovens. A wine fridge will def be in our future too!
The corner area is something that Mace and I have debated the last few months. I REALLY, REALLY want a full length pantry in the kitchen so I suggested we do a corner pantry, executed like the first image below and not the second. Mace is not convinced its the right move. Obviously the plans I have above don’t show the corner cabinet as the other option is to have it open on either side of the appliances.
I drew up these plans almost 6 months ago, 1 week after we got back from our honeymoon (I think I was very excited to jump back into home projects!), and since then I’ve had a few other ideas bounce around in my head. The big missing piece is understanding cost of the design (it’s quite a lot of cabinets really), so this past weekend I went to a design center to speak with someone about cabinets and start to understand our options. I had SO MUCH FUN looking at all the different cabinet styles and features and mentally planning which ones I’d want and where I’d want them to go! It also gave me different ideas on how to address the corner area based on available cabinets. We have an appointment to go back this weekend to start crunching some numbers so we can get our expectations inline, fingers crossed I’m not heart broken at the end of it!
