With all the work we’ve been putting into the house I’d say we deserve a super comfortable place to rest our heads after a long day at work and then working on the house. I wanted the color scheme to be calming and inviting with a touch luxury. This was my color scheme inspiration for the master, minus the olive green. And yes I have a binder full of tear sheets from magazines over the years (this is circa 2010) filled with my home decorating and design dreams!!
Before I moved forward I made sure to get Mace’s approval. You’ve already seen the paint color (which is Contemplation by BEHR) and I decided to go bolder on the walls because I was sick of looking at neutral walls. I had a small bench that I put by the door which is great for piling up throw pillows (and there are a few…) or tossing clothes on.
For the windows I wanted bronze hardware to match the light fixture. I also didn’t want the finials to be too feminine (Mace has to like it too!) and I’m not super girly so when I found these at Home Goods (which is my happy place) I jumped on them. It actually took me a while to find something I thought would work.
I also found the drapes there for pretty cheap. I was torn between a linen color (like the lamp shade) or these. I went with the mixier brown/tan color because the linen just looked washed out against the walls. The baseboards also posed a questions; do I got to the floor (which design wise I like better) or stay above the heater so there isn’t an issue when they are on. These happened to be shorter so I went with above the heater.
The curtains also are a little sheer (which you can see in this pic) so I’d like to sew in a liner at some point. New bedroom furniture in the future would be nice but for now we’re blending Mace’s stuff…
With mine. This is actually my childhood furniture (my parents were quick to handoff the furniture when I bought my house in the city) and I’d like to update the hardware but haven’t found anything I like yet.
The lamps were one of my first chalk paint projects a few years ago and it worked out that they fit with the rooms color scheme.
Speaking of lights here’s the updated ceiling fixture. Again I tried not to be too keep it gender neutral and got Mace’s approval.
The euro shams and throw pillow covers were a bit of a splurge from Pottery Barn (I had the small one already and the pillow inserts) but really pulled the color scheme together and added that touch of luxury I wanted.
I still love coming in here after a long day so I think the inviting and calming feel was a success. That blank space above the head is screaming for some attention (along with some other blank walls) and I’d like to get new side tables but I’m happy with this room for now. That being said its time to hit the hay!
