While Mace was handling the garage framing I got started on the office update. I removed the old window treatments and filled the holes in the trim with wood putty and sanded them down so they would be paint ready. The window frame also needed to be caulked before paint.
Then I tackled the closet demo. I had to remove the doors and valance, tear up the carpet, remove the double hanging bar, and the trim that supported the bars. This closet is abnormally deep (most are about 24 inches while this one is 40 inches) and the double hanging rods made it hard to reach everything so we planned to only have one rod in the future.
After the carpet was up I had to remove the door hardware and a bunch of carpet staples that were in the floor. Mace was not too happy with how I removed the staples (with a screw driver and a hammer) because I left some shallow gauges in the floor (shaped like a screw driver, opps!). We will eventually sand everything down and they won’t be noticeable but until then this is what it looks like. And the correct way to remove staples is with pliers.
The outlets were also getting some attention. Up next in this room was getting the walls ready for paint (see the can in the below pic, I was ready to go!) which would not be getting done for another 6 weeks…
