During weeks 10 & 11 there were a lot of small things to wrap up and tighten up on the deck. We needed to put all the siding back around the slider, finish the railings, and get ready for inspection. The back of our house had been looking a little rough for about 5 months since we started demo of the old dining room window. Mace had to install the flashing, weatherproofing, and j-channels around the landing to prep for sidingDu.
Before we even started the deck Mace installed the outdoor trim and the j-channel around the slider so all he had to do was the j-channel on top the deck boards. Here are some shots of that process.
Wow, we had come a long way!! Its crazy sometimes to look back and remember what things used to look like because we get so used to the present. Mace decided to install the landing siding before the landing post to it would be easier, you can see he’s got the post in at this point and was working on the railings.
And here’s a shot of the siding almost done with new lights! These lights were too small so they moved to the front of the garage and I got ones that had better proportions to the large slider and deck. This is the awesome stage of doing projects where things are starting to get cleaned up and put back together, always so exciting to see the finished product taking shape!!
Mace also got the stair railings and remaining deck railings up during these 2 weeks. So many things were getting finished but there was still a lot do before the party, both inside and out.
But first we had to pass inspection, I’d say we were confident but a little nervous too. In order to be compliant a 6″ sphere cannot pass under the stair railing so the last thing we did was get the stair skirt board up. We had to get custom sized 1″ X 16″ 18 ft. boards to fit the over treads (there are other ways to finish it but Mace liked how clean this one is). Just like the deck skirt board it helps give the stairs a finished look too.
Now for some before and after’s. And yes we did pass inspection, phew!! How sweet does that look!!!
