We were highly anticipating the arrival of the new slider and about a week before demo day we started prep work. First up was removing the baseboard heater. We have hot water baseboard heat so we had to turn off the water into the system and drain the system before we cut any pipes, otherwise we’d had a lot of water in the basement! Mace is knowledgeable enough to handle doing all this so I just helped remove the heater after the pipes were cut (we planned to re-pipe/connect everything after the slider install).
Here are some shots of what the space looked like with the heater gone. And then we were ready to get that window outta here!!
The slider had also arrived, but not exactly how we expected it to. We had been worrying over how we were going to move this ginormous door around once it got to the house (I’m pretty strong but this isn’t a normal sized door and I really wouldn’t be much help) but also how we were going to fit it into the space and make sure it didn’t fall over and break (that would really suck!). So we planned on enlisting the help of some strong friends to help move/install the door, however the slider arrived like this… in pieces… not assembled… no frame… not in the plan. Needless to say we were a little annoyed we weren’t told this ahead of time…
