Prepping & Painting The Dining Room

Nothing like being in the middle of THREE projects at once!  Now that we had torn the dining room apart and furniture was everywhere this room became the priority over the garage and office projects so we could get our main living area livable again!  Can you tell we were ready to sink our teeth into updating this place?!  Cathy and I had used scrapers to remove the glue from the walls and while we tried to be careful we most definitely scratched the plaster and it needed to be repaired before paint (all the circles on the wall were where repairs were needed).  There was also some damage by the heater that needed to be addressed so Mace got to work with his mud pan.

You can tell I had started painting the window frame (it was kind of a light pink color before, random choice…) which was a chore with all those sections.  I debated about not doing it because we were going to tear it out but I’m glad that I did because for 6 months it helped the room feel complete.  We also scraped out the old caulk and re-caulked the baseboards and chair rail before paint.  Its annoying to do but really does make for a better finished product.

Now we could start painting the trim, priming the repaired walls, and getting some color into the room! (took about 4 nights work to get 2 coats of everything done)

And then our dining room was put back together and feeling much fresher with the two-tone walls!!  It took us just under 2 weeks from start to finish to get to this point.

We still had to fix the trim where the hinges from the shutters were before we painted but one more room had our stamp on it!
