Trimming Out Garage Windows & Doors

The garage had been sitting insulated and drywalled for a while but it was time to start get all the trim ready so we could be one step closer to finishing the garage (we had help on the way!).  Up first the new side door got outfitted with trim.

Then the original brick mold went back up around the mudroom entrance.

The new window was also in need of a sill.  Here are some shots of Mace getting the still ready for install.

The sill needed to be outfitted with some trim too (who says men don’t like to accessorize).  Mace decided to do a self-return detail on the trim which is that little piece on the left.

And here are the install details: a little adhesive, some glue, and nail it in place!

And then you’ve got an installed sill with trim!  The self-return looks pretty sharp!

An added detail was that Mace wanted a rounded edge on the sill so he used his router to take the flat stock (left pic) and turn it into a rounded edge (right pic).

Caulking and filling nail holes with wood putty and then we were ready for paint.

The same process was used in the shelf area next to the side door that was tricky during the drywall phase and 2 nights later the garage trim was finished (6 months after we started).
